COUNTRY TO COUTURE

Numbulwar Numburindi Arts made its fashion debut on the Country to Couture runway at this year's Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair.

The show featured hand made yir (dilly bags) by Numburindi Josaline Wilfred, Marcia Wilfred, Megan Wilfred, Nicole Wilfred, Lillian Joshua, Rose Wilfed, Virginia Wilfred and Joy Wilfred. The artists used reclaimed ghost nets and ocean debris to replicate the traditional string bag, decorating them with acrylic stripes that reference clan identification conventionally painted with ochre.
