DISCOVER NUMBULWAR
-
Numbulwar is accessible via road during the dry season only, generally from June to September. Travel from Darwin via Katherine along the Roper Highway (about 10-12 hours) or from Nhulunbuy via Walker River (approximately 4-6 hours). Both roads are unsealed and a 4WD is essential. We recommend you check if the road is open here before planning your trip.
Numbulwar also has an all weather, sealed airstrip linked to the community via a 5 km dirt road.

Numbulwar is filled with pristine, natural beauty. Crystal clear water meets white sand, giving way to endlessly engaging bush scrub. A renowned fishing area and camping getaway, local knowledge goes a long way in finding the perfect spot.
The art centre is a must-visit if you are in the area. Master weavers use locally harvested pandanus and bush dyes to create beautiful baskets, dilly bags and round mats. The artists can be found at the art centre from Tuesday to Thursday, 11am to 3pm. Visitors are invited into the art centre for a chat with the artists and artworks are available for sale.
-
Numbulwar is a closed community. You will need to obtain a permit from the Northern Land Council (NLC) before you enter. You can apply for a permit via the NLC website here.
Art on the Road is made possible by The Australian Government, Regional Arts Australia and Cultural Tourism Accelerator Program.
