MURAL HONOURS NUNGGAYINBALA COUNTRY

The artists of Numbulwar Numburindi Arts brightened their art centre with a new mural that honours Nunggayinbala land and sea Country. Facilitated by Ellie Hannon, the mural reflects the important totems that come from the saltwater, as well as ghost nets, which the artists now use in weaving. The other side of the mural speaks to inland plants, traditional weaving materials and animals including pandanus, natural dyes, snakes, lilies and the introduced wild buffalo.

Sitting on a prominent corner in Numbulwar, the mural has drawn attention to the art centre and become a source of joy and pride for the community.

This project was made possible with the support of the NT Government’s Community Benefit Fund.
