JOY WILFRED CELEBRATED AT THE WOMEN’S SHOW

Joy Bundoola Wilfred has joined the ranks of Australia’s most exciting contemporary Indigenous female artists. Her 210cm diameter woven pandanus mat was selected for inclusion in the 19th annual Women’s Show at Vivien Anderson Gallery.

The monumental mat was made from kilograms of hand-harvested pandanus, processed and dyed naturally with colours from the environment surrounding Numbulwar. The piece cements Joy’s status as a master weaver.

The annual exhibition celebrates exceptional women artists from across Australia, and was opened by Yorta Yorta curator from Tate Modern, Kimberley Moulton on 20 March.
